RECONSO

Prof. Holzinger is the PI for the AFOSR University Nanosatellite Program (UNP-8) ‘RECONnaissance of Space Objects’ (RECONSO) student-led cubesat. Preliminary SSA telescope results have proven invaluable in evaluating and predicting performance of RECONSO’s payload, a 6cm aperture optical path leading to a sCMOS detector.

This program is fully executed by undergraduate and graduate students, having been initiated by a AE 4357 senior design group mentored by Dr. Holzinger, then continued by an interdisciplinary group of 30-40 students from the College of Engineering. This funded cubesat program has been selected for launch and willl a) generate on-orbit un-cued detection and tracking data of low-Earth space objects at costs substantially lower than current assets, and b) have the distinction of being the second Georgia Tech satellite to ever have been launched in to space.
